It’s Hannah here! After a few years I’ve decided it’s probably about time I properly introduce myself here and show my face! 🫣
I founded Matcha Hana in 2022 and officially launched at the beginning of 2023, it feels like its been a long time but also no time at all!
In 2016 I went to Japan for the first time as an 18 year old and immediately went back a few months later for a small college exchange program, where I met some of my best friends and my two beautiful host parents! I continued to visit a few times a year and eventually made the move for University in 2018! When I returned to Australia to finish my Art degree, I had planned to return to live in Japan but that was put on hold due to lockdown. Starting Matcha Hana then honestly felt like a natural progression, I had been drinking green tea with my parents daily since I was a little girl and later down the track my mum had a small organic tea business too for a short while!
When we were able to begin travelling again, I was straight back to Japan to visit my host parents and best friends constantly again but this time these trips included visits to my partner farms!
Fast forward to 2025 where the situation with matcha has honestly been completely unpredictable, somewhat unstable and scary, I placed most of my focus on our cafe partners and wholesalers, ensuring I had a consistent supply of high quality organic matcha available for them, it became quite hard for me to put much focus onto direct retail customers, website and social media. I am ready to start showing up consistently here putting focus back onto you guys, my OG customers!
My focus will always be providing 100% Organic tea that makes you feel good and provides you with moments of calm and joy, whilst honouring centuries of tradition and the special relationship we are so lucky to share with our partner farms and the incredible producers that lovingly make the tea we are so fortunate to drink.
